Whoa! Two months to go - December 22, 2008
Two months exactly before the big day. Now it's getting real... for a few reasons.#1 - Matt and I finally saw Old School Square in person. Yes, that's right. We booked our wedding location site unseen. And let me tell you, the reality is a thousand times better than the pictures we've seen (and the pictures are great!). We're both so excited about getting married there, and even more excited about the reception at the Vintage Gymnasium. :)
#2 - Kayla threw me a Bridal Shower on Saturday. That really made it real. And was sooo fun. Thanks, Kayla! She's the best maid of honor EVER!
#3 - We're cake tasting tomorrow and Friday. Which Matt thinks is a waste of time. But, whatever. He's going anyway. :)
Merry Christmas everyone! Can't wait to see you in two months!!
Much Love,
Katie
New Updates on the Guest Page!! - October 27, 2008
Check out the Guest Page for a FANTASTIC update! We just found out that the South Beach Wine and Food festival is going on February 19 - 22 in Miami. Now, hopefully the festivities on Sunday won't cause you to miss the wedding, but if you're coming in a little early, it would be a great pre-wedding activity!See, Modesto is FUN! - August 31, 2008
Last week, my dad was supposed to come visit, so I left work a little early to meet him at the house and SURPRISE! Kayla came also!!! They (including my mom) orchestrated this whole surprise and I really had NO idea.We spent Friday taking tours of the winery, then drove up to Oakhurst to meet Matt's mom and sister (the families had never met!), and spent the weekend in Yosemite and Bass Lake. It was a blast! I'm so glad to see my family. It was really good to feel a little bit of home so far away. :)
The week was so amazing. My dad and sister know more about this job (that I've held for one month) than they knew about the past 4 years of my working life. LOL. And, they got to see some parts of California that don't included beaches and surfers. And it was just great to hang out!
So, take their example and come visit us! We even have a guest room and I'll cook for you. :)
Much Love,
Katie
We've Registered - July 25, 2008
Even though we really prefer people to give us gift certificates for the wedding, we figured there are some people (*ahem* Aunt Terri) that just won't do that. So Matt and I went to Target today to register. That was fun! Maybe I'll start registering for birthdays and Christmas and stuff. :)Oh, and if you want to see what we registered for check it out here: Target Registry.
Much Love,
Katie
Wedding Cliche #1 - July 19, 2008
So, it's started. We (Matt, me, Mom, Dad, Kayla, Dallas, and Chris - Kayla's boyfriend) are all on 'wedding diets'. The good news is, we're all getting healthy. It just took a wedding to initiate the process. LOL.Kayla and Matt are winning so far in double digit losses, and I'm down about 7 pounds. Look out for a skinny bridal party! :)
Much Love,
Katie
Great News! - July 9, 2008
First of all, we have a home! Matt came home from Los Padres on Thursday and we immediately drove up to Modesto to move into our house (although we still don't have stuff in it... it's ours). It's a little 30's / 40's two bedroom / 1 bath house in Modesto, CA. Modesto is a very cool town in central California. It's nothing like the California living that you guys are thinking of. In fact, the town is surrounded by farm lands, which makes for a great farmer's market on Saturdays. But, it's got a cute little downtown, GREAT parks, and wonderful people! See pictures here. The other great news is that I have a new job! Starting Monday, I'll be a project manager for Gallo Winery. It has nothing to do with software, and everything to do with managing the release of new wine products (new wine, new label, new cork, etc). Gallo has a lot of wines that you probably didn't know were Gallo wines, my favorite surprises were - Barefoot, Da Vinci, Polka Dot, Turning Leaf, Dancing Bull, Gascon, and Ecco Domani. I'll be responsible for all new initiatives in the $4.99 - $8.99 price group. How convenient since that's the wine I drink. :) And also how convenient that I get a discount on wine, while I'm planning our wedding. Look out for a host of great Gallo wine at the wedding. LOL.
It feels like everything is falling together really well, so wish us luck in the new city, new house, and me in the new job!
Much Love,
Katie
Los Padres Fire - June 24, 2008
Well, Matt's off at the Indians / Los Padres fire as of today. It's the first time he's been out of county this season, but looks like he'll be back next week. So, I won't have to suffer too long without him. :)Wish him luck staying safe!
Much Love,
Katie
Cross Country Move - June 8, 2008
So, we've made the big move from Atlanta to California. What a trip! Before we left, we had quite a few going away shin-digs to attend to. Including one last trip to Sweetwater and one last trip to the Twisted Taco. Check out photos here.
The first two days were quite interesting, with a stop in Gulfport, MS to visit my college roommate, Brandy. It was so great to see her! And I was really surprised at how beautiful southern Alabama, Mississippi and Louisiana are! I think I have a new favorite part of the country. :)
On day 2, we made it to Austin, TX which is a pretty cool place to hang out. We had dinner with Terence and closed down the restaurant (something we haven't done since our second date). So, that was wonderful.
Day 3 started our trek across middle of nowhere Texas. OMG! What a HUGE state. It took us 15 hours to get across Texas. And let me tell you, there is NOTHING west of Austin / San Antonio, until you reach the New Mexico border. I mean, NOTHING. Like rolling hills, desert, and a gas station every 40-50 miles. Matt thought it was beautiful. I did too, for about an hour..... then there were 14 more. New Mexico went by in a flash, in the dark, so I can't tell you much about that.
Day 4 brought us through Arizona and California. There was a small celebration in the car when we crossed over the California border. We ended up driving an hour out of our way to stop in at Mekong River for dinner (site of our second date). If you're looking for good Vietnamese / Thai / Chinese food in southern California, be sure to stop there! Matt and I used to go so often when I was working in So-Cal. We hadn't been there in about a year, but they still remembered us! I was so excited. It was like visiting family again. We also stopped through and got Carlina on our way down there. Great to catch up with her again! And it was great to talk to someone besides Matt for the better part of a week. LOL. After the Carlina / Mekong visit, we made it up to Matt's dad and grandma's house, so I could meet them for the first time. (That's right, the first time.) The meeting went great. We spent day 5 with them, mostly just getting to know each other.
Day 6 brought us to Matt's mom's house in North Fork, CA which is where we remain today. Matt's mom has been so great letting us stay here while we find a place. We've been here just about a week, and I was starting to get depressed about this town until I met some friends! So things are looking good. Matt started work (every weekend) which is not too great, but we'll make do. :)
Much Love,
Katie
